In order to succeed in a rapidly changing world and lead full-blown happy lives we need to regularly update our OS. We have to evolve.

We live in the world of ever-growing complexity of challenges and systems around us. However, the complexity of our psyche, our personal Operating System, finds it difficult to catch up with these challenges.
According to traditional development frameworks, leaders need to be taught various tools and techniques that will help them better manage their realities – personal, team or corporate ones.

But what if the leader’s personal state impacts the world around him just as much as exogenous factors do?

Vertical Development Model developed by Susanne Cook-Greuter (Harvard) describes this evolution of adults wherein every next stage leads a person to greater wisdom, personal integrity, ability to make best decisions under uncertainty and create better future for herself and her teams.

What’s the benefit of vertical development?

Today, 40 years after the elaboration of this model, there is a growing body of research in organizational and leadership development showing that leaders at later stages:

— control their attention;

— find additional sources of motivation and energy for themselves and their teams;

— trust their heart and their intuition and make more holistic decisions;

— can look beyond the horizon and spot more opportunities and prospects;

— increase their companies’ performance by 30% while working less and reducing organizational stress levels;

— are capable of changing existing paradigms at the system level;

— are capable of implementing transformational changes in their companies;

— have substantial personal integrity and can leverage their potential to the full;

— have a lot of empathy and create an environment of trust and creativity in the team.

What to expect

Mindfulness meditation — a secular practice that helps us learn how our minds work and how their potential can be fully leveraged.

Neuroscience — knowledge of the workings of our brain and nervous system, the connection between mind and heart, and why leaders today cannot ignore this connection.

Embodiment and somatics — bodywork techniques that help softly release the muscular blocks and programs that unconsciously shape our leadership styles, our physical and spiritual health and even our cognitive strategies.

Ken Wilber’s Integral Philosophy — a way of viewing oneself, processes and the world in general from the most holistic, all-encompassing perspective.

Action research — we start acting more timely and wisely thanks to continuous fine-tuning of ourselves to the present moment (turning every action into a research project).

Vertical Development framework — describes adults’ sense-making and perception of life as they move through the nine stages of leadership maturity.

Otto Scharmer’s U Theory — an innovating technique for use in systems where traditional tools have ceased to work and a new approach is required.

Polarity Management — a new way of managing processes in the life of people and organizations.

Work with shadow — exploration of the unconscious parts of oneself and their transformation into fuel for growth.

Program structure

1. Leadership maturity profile

All participants fill out Susanne Cook-Greuter’s Leadership Maturity Assessment Profile prior to the start of the program. Having assessed your current stage of vertical development, we shall be able to fine-tune the program to fit everyone’s needs and elaborate individual development plans.

2. Training modules

Three modules 4 days long each. We’ll leave the city and spend these four days in an eco hotel to provide for a fully immersive experience, make the best use of time and create an environment of trust within the group. Every day will start at 8am with a meditation and sessions will finish at 9pm.

3. Project-based approach

We ask every participant to select a project to work on throughout the program to maximize the program’s practical output. The project can be a personal or a business transformation. We only learn, develop and change when we apply the new theoretical knowledge right away.

4. Intermodular support

We will help you with your project in the three-month spells between modules. This continuity of learning will help you integrate your new vision and ways of living into the everyday reality.

5. Individual coaching

Every participant will have four individual coaching sessions during the program. One will focus on your leadership maturity profile, another will provide a deeper exploration of mindfulness, and two sessions will support you (we can address your individual requests and find ways to leverage existing resources) and your project.

6. Buddy

Sometimes it’s crucial to talk to someone in a similar position, someone who is also trying new things, confronting personal limitations, being afraid to change and risking habitual behaviors. A buddy is another program participant (just like you) who is supporting and helping you throughout the program. Everyone has a buddy, and is a buddy for someone else.
7. Work in small groups

Humans are social animals. Our brain develops and changes faster in the proper environment. That’s why we shall meet twice (after the first and the second modules) in small groups with course leaders and guest experts to discuss transformations, support each other and share insights.

FAQ

Can I start with Module 2 or skip a module?
Unfortunately no, as starting with Module 2 would mean missing too much. Likewise, it’s not advised to skip modules. We do realize that one cannot plan for everything and will be open to discuss potential solutions if something happens.

I don’t have a project. Can I still sign up for the program?
Certainly. One of the objectives of the program is to help you master the project-based approach.

Describe an ideal participant
We have designed this program for a wide variety of leaders, for the people who want to grow and search for new meanings in life. We expect the participants to feel ownership of the things happening not only to them, but also to the world around (their teams, companies, countries and the planet). We want the people who believe they can make a difference and change the world to the better at various levels.

Certification

Having completed the three modules, participants will be awarded certificates from the Institute for Vertical Development (Russia) and Leadership Maturity Center (USA).
